仕事内容

We are seeking current Bachelor or Master students with a passion for applied science and machine learning to join our Japan Store Tech team as Applied Scientist Interns in 2028. Our team is at the forefront of developing the technology that enhances cross-border shopping experiences for millions of Amazon customers worldwide. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to develop innovative machine learning models and algorithms specifically aimed at improving product discovery, search relevance, personalization, and overall customer experiences across various markets and languages.

In this role, you will work closely with experienced Amazon scientists and engineers to design, develop, and implement scalable solutions. You will be tasked with conducting experiments, both offline and online, to validate hypotheses and measure the impact of these solutions. Analyzing large datasets to uncover patterns and generate insights will be a central part of your work, informing decisions on model design and optimization.

We aim for our interns to contribute to both customer-facing experiences and internal development tools powered by GenAI and LLM systems. You will be expected to write clear, maintainable production-quality code and effectively communicate your research findings through documentation and presentations. Collaborating in an agile environment, you will see your science solutions progress from prototype stages to full-scale production applications.

Ideal candidates will have programming experience in languages such as Python, Java, or C++, and coursework or research experience in machine learning, deep learning, or related fields. Hands-on experience with large-scale datasets, ML model deployment, deep learning frameworks, and familiarity with emerging AI technologies are highly valued. Proficiency in English is required, and while proficiency in Japanese is a plus, it is not mandatory. This role is an excellent starting point for those looking to build a career in science at a global scale.

- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master program in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Programming experience in one or more of: Python, Java, C++, or equivalent.
- Coursework or research experience in one or more of: machine learning, deep learning, NLP, information retrieval, computer vision, statistics, or optimization.
- Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and mathematical/statistical modeling.
- Expected to graduate in 2028 and able to start from either April 1st or October 1st in 2028.

- **望ましい経験**:
- Publications or submitted papers in top-tier venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ACL, EMNLP, CVPR, KDD, WWW, RecSys, SIGIR).
- Hands-on experience building and deploying ML models on large-scale datasets.
- Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX).
- Familiarity with large language models, generative AI, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
- Experience designing and analyzing A/B tests or causal inference experiments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex technical ideas clearly.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS).
- Proficiency in Japanese is a plus but not required; English fluency is required.
