仕事内容
We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Edge Delivery team, responsible for the core of Fastly's global platform, the customized Varnish engine. Our team develops and operates the engine, VCL compiler, and edge caching systems that enable Fastly's worldwide operations. Key initiatives include advancing split storage architectures, evolving the VCL language, and ensuring robust origin connectivity.
In this role, you will manage a distributed team of 15 senior engineers. You will be tasked with organizing the team into effective and sustainable structures, facilitating project execution, and supporting each team member's growth. Regular responsibilities include conducting 1:1 meetings, offering feedback, fostering career advancement, and maintaining high levels of technical talent retention.
Collaboration is essential, as you will work with product managers and your director to translate strategic roadmaps into actionable engineering projects, ensuring a clear focus and minimizing unnecessary disruptions. It is also your responsibility to troubleshoot technical barriers and refine daily workflows, ensuring that our systems maintain high performance and reliability.
Participation in incident response is also required, where you will help manage outages, guide the team through pressures, and maintain focus on critical metrics such as cache hit ratios, throughput, memory efficiency, and system stability.
We expect you to have over five years of experience managing infrastructure or systems engineering teams and at least ten years in related engineering fields. Your experience should include managing large teams and providing strong written and verbal communication. A practical problem-solving approach and a preference for automation are highly valued.

Enthusiasm for developing senior engineers, building balanced team workflows, and measuring success by team output and health. Experience building collaborative, accountable teams with a habit of providing clear, honest, and constructive feedback. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience managing distributed teams and turning complex goals into clear tasks.
