仕事内容
As a Staff Software Engineer in the Control Systems team at Fastly, we are responsible for transforming customer intent into configuration data that supports the edge architecture of the company. Our role is crucial, as it intersects with various internal teams to enhance and safeguard the Fastly experience relied upon by customers worldwide. Your primary duties will include supporting, deploying, and managing large-scale Perl production systems that manage configuration changes across thousands of global nodes. You will play a pivotal role in driving the architectural and operational advancements of our systems by evolving legacy systems into efficient Go microservices.
Leadership in technical projects, coordination with stakeholders, and motivation for project progress are imperative, as is collaboration across engineering teams to ensure that our configuration systems align with new feature requirements. Mentoring other engineers, promoting knowledge sharing, innovative problem-solving, and teamwork are key components of your responsibility. Additionally, participation in an on-call rotation to ensure system reliability is expected.
You should bring substantial experience in building highly reliable distributed systems, usually with at least 7 years in a similar role. Proficiency in Go is essential, and a pragmatic approach to managing legacy systems is crucial, especially with regard to Perl. You should possess the ability to manage and deliver comprehensive projects across teams, influence cross-organizational activities, and work effectively in a remote setup, supporting asynchronous workflows. We value an adaptable problem-solver who can learn from errors, navigate ambiguities, and balance immediate needs with long-term quality via considered tradeoffs. Experience with Perl, containerization systems like Kubernetes and Docker, and monitoring solutions (e.g., Prometheus and Grafana) is beneficial.
