仕事内容

At Manulife Japan, we are spearheading a transformative initiative by integrating Data and AI to completely revamp our data foundations, aiming to provide a unified and trusted context for our customers, distributors, and business operations. Our mission is to establish a cutting-edge data and context engineering capability, positioning our data platform as a product imbued with automated governance. As the Head of Data & Context Engineering, you will lead the formation of an internal team, fostering a culture of ownership and high engineering standards. You will manage a self-service data platform inclusive of a data catalog and rapid access protocols, which, once users are trained, streamline usability and reliability for internal product teams.

Your role will also encompass embedding data governance within the platform—ensuring data access, lineage, quality, and policy are automatically regulated, collaborating closely with data stewards. You will lead DataOps to facilitate frequent, secure releases through CI/CD and test automation. Additionally, in collaboration with the AI team, you'll develop a context layer that AI agents depend on, creating a semantic layer, standardized core metrics, and real-time metadata capture, employing AI to streamline data engineering and governance processes.

Success in this role involves building a robust organizational culture around data and context engineering, with delivery sped up by reliable and accessible data. You will engage with senior leadership to drive data strategy, influence governance, and work with global teams on architectural standards, ensuring enhanced outcomes for customers and distributors through AI-enabled services.

- 10+ years in data engineering or data platforms, including 5+ years leading engineering teams.
- Proven track record of building an in-house data engineering team and culture.
- Experience running an enterprise cloud data platform as a product (Azure, Databricks or equivalent).
- Strong CI/CD, test automation and infrastructure-as-code practice applied to data.
- Experience building governance into a platform (access, lineage, data quality, policy as code).
- Cutting-edge data architecture skills, including data for AI (semantic, metadata and ontology layers, context for AI agents).
- Ability to influence senior business and technology leaders.
- Business-level English.

- **望ましい経験**:
- Business-level Japanese.
- Experience with agile operating models (squads, chapters, product ownership).
- Hands-on experience with GenAI and AI agent tooling.
- Experience building self-service platforms for citizen developers.
- Experience driving data transformation in a complex or legacy environment.
- Experience in insurance, financial services or another regulated industry.
